Sine Wave

For Sine Wave we have terms and definitions in 6 topics. The topics are Audio Recording, Car Audio, Kiteboard, Music Technology, Solar Energy and UPS.

Sine Wave (Audio Recording)

A wave following the equation y = sin x, where x is degrees and y is voltage or sound pressure level. A sine wave is a waveform of a single frequency producing pure tone without harmonics.

Sine Wave (Car Audio)

A waveform that is commonly used to test and set up audio systems. (e.g., We checked out our subwoofer enclosure by sending it a 50 Hz sine wave and measuring the response.)

Sine Wave (Kiteboard)

Flying the kite up and down at the edge of the wind window (which creates a sine wave pattern) to generate more power with apparent wind.

Sine Wave (Music Technology)

Most basic type of wave, and the basic building block of all other wave types. A sine waveform has the appearence of a symmetrical "wobbly w" with nice rouded edges. A sine wave is also known as a "simple waveform", whereas all others are known as "complex" ones. The reasons for this is that a sine wave is the only kind of pure tone without harmonics (and can only be produced electronically). Suppossing that another sine wave of a different frequency is introduced, harmonics would then be produced, the waveform of the sum of these two waves would be more asymmetrical, and (as mentioned above) would be a "complex" waveform. Alternating Current takes the form of a pure sine wave.

Sine Wave (Solar Energy)

A waveform corresponding to a single-frequency periodic oscillation that can be mathematically represented as a function of amplitude versus angle in which the value of the curve at any point is equal to the sine of that angle.

Sine Wave (UPS)

The sinusoidal wave form exhibited by alternating current.
