As Chair of the Board of Internal Economy, the Speaker oversees the administration of the House. In addition, the Speaker is the spokesperson and representative of the House of Commons in its relations with the Senate, the Crown and other bodies outside the House of Commons. - Synonym: first Commoner

Individual selected by the House to preside over the proceedings of the House in formal session. The Speaker of the House is almost always a member of the majority party.

Speaker (Public Speaking)

The person who is presenting an oral message to a listener.


Speaker (Weightlifting)

The official who moderates the competition, announcing the name of the athlete about to attempt a lift and announcing the validity or non-validity of the lift after it has been attempted. The speaker also introduces the athletes and other officials during the presentation.
