Telemetry (Car Aerodynamics)

An electronic device which transmits specific data (measurements) to a remote site. It electronically records performance of engine and actuation of controls by the driver. The data is then used as a foundation for determining car setup.

Telemetry (Exercise)

The process by which the heart rate is transmitted from a heart rate monitor chest strap to a receiver on a piece of cardiovascular equipment or in a wristwatch receiver.

Telemetry (Ham Radio)

Transmission of radio signals and coded data from a space vehicle.

Telemetry (Hunting)

The capability of transmitting or retrieving data over long distance communication links, such as satellite or telephone.

Telemetry (Indycar Racing)

A radio device that relays information such as engine, tire, steering and throttle performance to team engineers in the pits. The team can monitor both car and driver activity to ensure the car is performing properly. Also enhances driver safety by allowing the team to notice any developing mechanical problem the driver cannot foresee.

Telemetry (NASCAR Racing)

A series of sensors attached to various parts of the car. These sensors transmit information such a miles per gallon, revolutions per second, and transmission gear selection to a remote computer. It is illegal for teams to use during official NASCAR events.

Telemetry (Telepresence)

Measurements and information recorded from a remote device and transmitted for use elsewhere.

Telemetry (Video)

The system by which a signal is transmitted to a remote location in order to control CCTV equipment e.g. to control pan and tilt and zoom functions, switch on lights, move to preset positions etc. The controller at the operating position is the transmitter and there is a receiver at the remote location. The signal can be transmitted along a simple 'twisted pair' cable or along the same coaxial cable that carries the video signal.
