Template (Car Design)

A hard, cut-out representation of a body surface at a certain section. Taken vertically, templates are made on one side of a clay model to accurately reproduce sections either on the other side of the model or in a drawing.

Template (Car Racing)

Used to check that the car's body shape and size are in compliance with NASCAR rules. A template is a large flat pattern in the shape of the approved profile that the car must match.

A predefined set of tools or forms that establishes the structure and settings necessary to quickly create content.

Template (Genetics)

A single DNA strand that serves as pattern for building a new second strand.

Template (Graphic Design)

in page design, a file with an associated style sheet and all standing and serial elements in place on a master or base page, used for publication following the same design.

Template (HIV and AIDs)

In biology, a molecule (eg, DNA) that serves as a pattern for the generation of another macromolecule (eg, messenger RNA). See Ribonucleic Acid.

Template (Scrapbooking)

A stencil used to trace shapes onto scrapbook pages or photographs.

Template (Surf)

A wooden sheet cut into an imaginary surfboard curve, used by a shaper or designer to draw outlines onto a blank prior to shaping. A template is made of thin plywood, plastic, or Masonite. The outline curve of one side of the template may be an outline for the nose of a surfboard, while the outline curve of the other side of the same template may be an outline for the tail section of the surfboard. Template (Technology)

1. In an application package, an overlay for the keyboard that idenitfies special keys and key combinations. 2. In image processing, a pattern that can be used to identify or match a scanned image. 3. In spreadsheet programs, a predesigned spreadsheet that contains formulas, labels, and other elements. 4. In MS-DOS, a small portion of memory that holds the most recently typed MS-DOS command. 5. In word processing and desktop publishing programs, a predesigned document that contains formatting and, in many cases, generic text.

Template (Woodworking)

A pattern. Often a template is made of hardboard and used with a pilot bit to route a shape in a board.
