Tertiary Treatment (Environment)

Advanced cleaning of wastewater that goes beyond the secondary or biological stage, removing nutrients such as phosphorus, nitrogen, and most BOD and suspended solids.


Tertiary Treatment (Sanitation)

The treatment of wastewater beyond the secondary or biological stage. Term normally implies the removal of nutrients, such as phosphorus and nitrogen, and of a high percentage of suspended solids. Term now being replaced by the preferable term, advanced waste treatment.

Any of various methods used to further purify water or wastewater that has already gone through secondary treatment
