Trade Date

Trade Date (Accounting)

Date when a SECURITY transaction is entered into, to be settled on at a later date. Transactions involving financial instruments are generally accounted for on the trade date.

Trade Date (Finance)

The date that the counterparties in an interest rate swap commit to the swap. Also, the day on which a security or a commodity future trade actually takes place. Trades generally settle (are paid for) 1-5 business days after a trade date. With stocks, settlement is generally 3 business days after the trade. The settlement date usually follows the trade date by five business days, but varies depending on the transaction and method of delivery used.

The day on which a securities order to buy or sell is executed.


Trade Date (Securities)

The date a firm accepts a bid or offer for a security, even if time differences mean that the acceptance may not reach the firm making the bid or offer until the next day. The trade date may be different than the day the order was placed with a firm.
