Transcription

For Transcription we have terms and definitions in 15 topics. The topics are Ancestors, Bioinformatics, Biology, Biotechnology, Drug Research, Evolution, Fossils, Gene Testing, Genetics, Genetics and Genealogy, Genome, HIV and AIDs, Huntingtons Disease, Magnetic Tapes and Microbiology.

Transcription (Ancestors)

A record compiled or copied from an original source or from a record which has been compiled previously.

Transcription (Bioinformatics)

The assembly of complementary single-stranded RNA on a DNA template.

Transcription (Biology)

The process in which a complementary strand of mRNA is synthesized according to the nitrogenous base code of DNA.

Transcription (Biotechnology)

The transfer of information from specific sequences in a DNA molecule to produce new strands of messenger RNA, which then carry this information from the nucleus to the cytoplasm (where the messenger RNA is translated into protein).

Transcription (Drug Research)

The process of synthesizing RNA from a DNA template. Specific enzymes called RNA polymerases transcribe the DNA.

Transcription (Evolution)

The process by which messenger RNA is read from the DNA forming a gene.

Transcription (Fossils)

The process by which messenger RNA is read from the DNA forming a gene.

Transcription (Gene Testing)

The process of copying information from DNA into new strands of messenger RNA (mRNA). The mRNA then carries this information to the cytoplasm, where it serves as the blueprint for the manufacture of a specific protein.

Transcription (Genetics)

The process by which DNA passes genetic information to RNA. Transcription is the first step in producing proteins.

Transcription (Genetics and Genealogy)

The synthesis of an RNA copy from a sequence of DNA (a gene). The first step in gene expression. Compare to Translation. See Gene Expression.

Transcription (Genome)

The synthesis of an RNA copy from a sequence of DNA (a gene); the first step in gene expression.
See also: translation

Transcription (HIV and AIDs)

The synthesis of RNA from DNA.

Transcription (Huntingtons Disease)

One part of the process that uses the DNA code to make a protein.

Transcription (Magnetic Tapes)

The process of copying all of the information on one tape to another tape of the same or different format. The term refreshing is commonly used by some archivists and librarians to refer to the process of copying information from one tape to a newer tape of the same format (e.g., VHS to VHS). When the information is copied to a different format (e.g., BetaMax to VHS), the terms reformatting and converting have been used.

Transcription (Microbiology)

The process of copying a gene into RNA transcript. This is the first step in the expression of any gene. The resulting RNA, if it codes for a protein, will be spliced, polyadenylated, transported to the cytoplasm, and by the process of translation will produce the desired protein molecule, although not all transcripts lead to proteins. Compare translation.
