Unit (Blackjack)

(n). This generally means a card counter's minimum bet. When a counter is spreading $25 to $200 and says he won 10 units, he means he won $250.

Unit (Flood Insurance)

A single-family unit owned by the policyholder in a condominium building.


Unit (Frauds and Scams)

1) Number of shares, bonds, or commodities that is considered the normal unit of trading on an exchange. 2) More than one class of securities traded together as one security. A corporation, for example, might issue a security that consists of one common share and one warrant that sells as a unit.


Unit (Graphic Design)

in typography, divisions of the em space, used for fine-tuning the letterspacing of text type. Different typesetting systems and desktop publishing software use different unit divisions


Unit (Paper)

Refers to the combination of inking, plate and impression operations to print each color. A 4-color press has 4 printing units each with its own inking, plate and impression functions.

Unit (Prostate Cancer)

A blood-banking term for a pint of blood or plasma but can be used to quantitate other blood products such as platelets


Unit (Security Testing)

The smallest piece of software that can be independently tested (i.e., compiled or assembled, loaded, and tested). Usually the work of one programmer consisting of a few hundred lines of source code.


Unit (Wood)

A stack of lumber or plywood, usually of a standard size.

A small troop/group formed at a day camp or resident camp. Girl Scouts assigns campers to a unit based on age or interest. Also a portion of a campsite designated as the living and working area for a group of campers.
