Value (Accounting)

is a term that defines the worth of a thing. The term is usually preceded by the wordor words such as 'Fair" or "Fair Market"and it is usually defined in the document where it is found. Not all value for an item is the samei.e. value is usually perceived.


Value (Art)

The degree of lightness on a scale of grays running from black to white. Colors are similarly evaluated: the darker ones (SHADES) are said to be lower in value, the lighter ones (TINTS) higher in value.

Value (CSS)

One or more keywords. A value is associated with a property and together they form a declaration. Examples of values include 13px, yellow, underline overline, and black url(stars.gif) center repeat fixed. Each of those examples is a single value; the latter two are composed of multiple keywords.

The intrinsic worth of specific goods or services, generally identifiable as the amount of money they can be exchanged for at any given time.

Value (Data Management)

A computer term for an answer to a question. On a questionnaire, a question has an answer; but in a computer record, a variable has a value.


Value (Fine Art)

The lightness or darkness of a line, shape or area in terms of black to white; also called tone; e.g., a light red will have a light value; a dark red will have a dark value.

The extent to which a color reflects or transmits light.


Value (Interactive Services Marketing)

An assessment of the (perceived) benefits of a service versus the (perceived) costs associated with it.


Value (Marketing)

The power of any good to command other goods in peaceful and voluntary exchange.


Value (Medical Education)

A term referring to what people believe in, or what they consider important about the way they live. Values influence behavior and culture as persons, groups and communities. Values therefore are an important determinant of individual and community health. They are, however, difficult to measure objectively.


Value (Non-Profit Marketing)

The worth or utility a consumer identifies with a product or organization. Can be equated by subtracting the total costs (or negatives) associated with the experience from the total benefits (or positives).


Value (Paint)

The lightness or darkness of a color, i.e. light blue, medium blue and dark blue have different values.

Value (Real Estate)

The measure of the monetary equivalent of a property. The four essential elements of value are utility, scarcity, demand and transferability. Cost does not equal value nor does equity.
There are various types of value, such as market value, tax assessed value, book value, insurance value, use value, par value, rental value and replacement value. By far, the type of value used for the largest number of real estate transactions is market value.


Value (Sculptural)

The relative lightness or darkness of a hue, or of a neutral varying from white to black.


Value (Sports Gambling)

Getting the best odds on a betting proposition; the highest possible edge.


Value (Statistics)

A measurement or classification of a variable.


Value (Teacher Evaluation)

An estimation or a measure of the merit and/or worth of a teacher in terms of the intrinsic qualities of the individual teacher (merit) and of the teacher's potential benefit to the school and its students (worth). See Merit, Worth.


Value (Technology)

A quantity assigned to an element such as a variable, symbol, or label. See tone (definition 1).
