Voice Vote (Advocacy)

Voting on a bill by acclimation, or asking those in favor to say "yea" and those opposed to say "no." Usually, only non-controversial legislation without any "no" votes is passed this way (such as renaming post offices), but a voice vote will sometimes be taken before a roll call vote.

Voice Vote (Congressional)

In the House or Senate, members answer "aye" or "no" in chorus, and the presiding officer decides the result. The term is also used loosely to indicate action by unanimous consent or without objection.


Voice Vote (Environment)

A vote where members vote by saying either "yes" or "no" together; individual member's votes are not placed on record.


Voice Vote (Parliamentary Procedure)

(vote par oui ou non) - An oral vote held without recording individual Members' votes or the number of yeas and nays. - Compare: recorded division - Distinguish: row by row voting
