The agreement to forego premium payment during a period of disability.


Waiver (Canadian Law)

When a person disclaims or renounces to a right that they may have otherwise had. Waivers are not always in writing. Sometimes a person's actions can be interpreted as a waiver.


Waiver (College Financial Aid)

An arrangement under which a school does not charge specific costs if a student meets certain qualifications.


Waiver (Customs)

A formal exemption of a right or claim. A waiver in GATT is a formal agreement of the Contracting Parties to relinquish or forego legal rights, or to suspend the application of specific GATT provisions.

Waiver (Insurance)

(1) A rider waiving (excluding) liability for a stated cause of accident or (especially) sickness. (2) Provision or rider agreeing to waive (forego) premium payment during a period of disability. (3) The giving up or surrender of a right or privilege that is known to exist. It may be effected by the agent, adjuster, or insurance company employee or official orally or in writing.


Waiver (International Economics)

An authorized deviation from the terms of a previously negotiated and legally binding agreement. Many countries have sought and obtained waivers from particular obligations of the GATT and WTO.

Intentionally given up a right.
