The gradual process of raising the body temperature and loosening muscles prior to strenuous exercise.


Warm-up (Exercise)

Slow exercise at the beginning of a workout that raises your body temperature and prepare your heart and muscles for activity.

Warm-up (Fitness)

The 10-15-minute session of light calisthenics, aerobic exercise, and stretching taken prior to handling heavy bodybuilding training movements. A good warm-up helps to prevent injuries and actually allows you to get more out of your training than if you went into a workout totally cold. Warming-up also helps clean toxins out of your muscles prior to the workout.

The stretching exercises and practice session a swimmer does before the meet or their event to get their muscles loose and ready to race. Essential to the prevention of injury.
