Warrant (Accounting)

in government accountingis an order drawn authorizing payment to a designated payee. In securitiesit is a security entitling the holder to buy a proportionate amount of stock at some specified future date at a specified priceusually one higher than current market. This "warrant" is then traded as a securitythe price of which reflects the value of the underlying stock. Warrants are issued by corporations and often used as a "sweetener" bundled with another class of security to enhance the marketability of the latter. Warrants are like call optionsbut with much longer time spans -- sometimes years. In additionwarrants are offered by corporations whereas exchange traded call options are not issued by firms.


Warrant (Accounting Terms)

Option to purchase additional SECURITIES from the issuer.


Warrant (Derivatives)

An option that a corporation issues, with its own shares as the underlying asset. The crucial implication is that exercise of the option changes the number of claims against the corporation's assets. Thus, the pricing equations for Call (Put) Warrants and ordinary Call (Put) Options differ by the dilution (antidilution) effect. Empirically, warrants are options with a long time to expiration, which may be several or many years, or even decades or an infinite time. An option on asset A that party B issues and lists on an exchange. Party B might a corporation, a government, etc. Endowment Warrants (q.v.). Installment Warrants (q.v.).


Warrant (Dream)

To dream that a warrant is being served on you, denotes that you will engage in some important work which will give you great uneasiness as to its standing and profits.
To see a warrant served on some one else, there will be danger of your actions bringing you into fatal quarrels or misunderstandings. You are likely to be justly indignant with the wantonness of some friend.

Warrant (Finance)

A security entitling the holder to buy a proportionate amount of stock at some specified future date at a specified price, usually one higher than current market price. Warrants are traded as securities whose price reflects the value of the underlying stock. Corporations often bundle warrants with another class of security to enhance the marketability of the other class. Warrants are like call options, but with much longer time spans-sometimes years. And, warrants are offered by corporations, while exchange-traded call options are not issued by firms.

Warrant (Frauds and Scams)

A certificate that gives a shareholder the right to purchase a security at a specified price within a predetermined time period or perpetually. Corporations issue warrants directly and is sometimes offered along with a security as incentive to buy. The abbreviation "WT" is used in newspaper stock listings.


Warrant (International Business)

An option issued by a company that allows the holder to purchase equity from the company at a predetermined price prior to an expiration date. Warrants are frequently attached to Eurobonds.


Warrant (Investing)

A certificate that gives a shareholder the right to purchase a security at a specified price within a predetermined time period or perpetually. Most commonly, a court order authorizing law enforcement officers to make an arrest or conduct a search. An application seeking a warrant must be accompanied by an affidavit which establishes probable cause by detailing the facts upon which the request is based.
