Zone (Calorie Restriction)

A popular diet advocated by Barry Sears. One primary tenet is achieving the right macronutrient ratio at every meal/snack to balance eicosanoids. The general ratio is 30% of calories from protein, 30% of calories from fat and 40% of calories from carbohydrates -- but Sears says these ratios should be tailored to the individual. The Zone diet also focuses on getting most fat calories from MUFA.


Zone (Construction)

The section of a building that is served by one heating or cooling loop because it has noticeably distinct heating or cooling needs. Also, the section of property that will be watered from a lawn sprinkler system.


Zone (Domain Names)

A portion of the total domain name space that is represented by the data stored on a particular name server. The name server has authority over the zone - or the particular portion of the domain name space - described by that data. [see also: Zone File]


Zone (Energy)

An interval of a geological formation that contains one or more oil or gas reservoirs; a portion of a geological formation that has the porosity and permeability to form petroleum traps for oil and natural gas.

Zone (Natural Gas)

A geographical area. A geological zone, however, means an interval of strata of the geologic column that has distinguishing characteristics from surrounding strata.A geographical area. Also, a space or group of spaces within a building with heating and/or cooling requirements sufficiently similar so that comfort conditions can be maintained by a single controlling device.


Zone (Prison)

In VTKs the same zones and functional premises exist as in those of adult colonies (see "PKT"), there are also disciplinary punishment cells called DIZOs.

An area of a county or city set aside for a certain purpose where the use of the land is restricted by law - zoning ordinance.

One of 4 administrative divisions of USA Swimming with supervisory responsibilities within certain geographical boundaries designated by USA Swimming. South Carolina Swimming is in the Southern Zone.
