Backshore (Cartographic)

Part of a beach that is usually dry and is reached only by the highest tides; by extension, a narrow strip of relatively flat coast bordering the sea.

Backshore (Erosion)

The generally dry portion of the beach between the berm crest and the vegetation line that is submerged only during very high sea levels and eroded only during moderate to strong wave events.

Backshore (Hunting)

(1) The upper part of the active BEACH above the normal reach of the tides (high water), but affected by large waves occurring during a high. (2) (SMP) The accretion or erosion zone, located landward of ordinary high tide, which is normally wetted only by storm tides.

Backshore (Physical Geography)

Area behind the shore. This coastal feature is located between the beach berm and the backshore slope.
